Beehive’s History

One of the oldest Montessori schools in Perth, the Beehive started in 1977, with less than 20 children, under the guidance of Mrs Renee Taylor. The building in which they operated was a small hall, but this start represented the culmination of a dream for Mrs Taylor and the first group of enthusiastic parents.

Today Beehive is situated in modern, purpose-designed premises beside the sea in Mosman Park with over 200 students aged from 3 years to 15 years, and a well-established playgroup.

The design of the school is very much open plan, with each class fully equipped with Montessori material. This especially designed equipment is beautifully made from predominantly natural material and is mostly purchased, with some being made by the teachers themselves.

With a Montessori education, the people directing the children in their learning are often referred to as “Directors or Directresses”. All teachers are registered with TRBWA, (Teacher Registration Board of WA), and all have, or are studying for, additional Montessori qualifications.

The remainder of the staff at the school comprise of part-time specialist instructors, assistants and administrative staff.

“The Child should love everything that he learns, for his mental and emotional growth are linked. Whatever is presented to him must be made beautiful and clear.”
– Maria Montessori
