La Casa del Giardino
We had a
great start to this term with our excursion to Farmyard Experience! The
children had a wonderful time feeding the wide variety of animals, and
holding the rabbits, guinea pigs and chicks. It is a wonderful opportunity
for children to experience farm animals in such a safe and pleasant
environment, and has prompted a great deal of discussion, stories and songs
about farm animals. For the remainder of the term we have learned about
specific farm animals in more detail, with each child making a project book
about them.
Another
highlight of this term was making vegetable soup for lunch, even though very
little of it was actually eaten!! The children enjoyed cutting the
vegetables and herbs, and setting the tables with vases of flowers.
As well
as these special occasions, the children have been working very
industriously all term. The ‘explosion’ into writing that Maria Montessori
writes about has happened for several children at the same time- so the
moveable alphabet and letter boxes are in constant demand! It is such an
exciting time for children (and the teacher!) when this happens, and the
pleasure on their faces when they create a sentence is a delight to behold.
The golden beads have also been in high demand this term, with many children
working at different levels- from the three year olds bringing the correct
quantity of just one hierarchy at a time, to the nearly six year olds
managing the operations of addition, multiplication, subtraction or division
with exchanging! With all of this and more, the children are ready for a
well deserved break!
Thank
you to the Beeliners; to all who contributed the many bits and pieces we ask
for; and for the help with cooking, cleaning, repairs and washing.
Happy
holidays!
