The BUZZ
The end of Term 2 is drawing near, and it couldn’t come
sooner. Many children and teachers have been ill over the last two weeks
and I’m sure a couple of weeks rest will do everyone the world of good.
It has been a very busy and productive term. We have
had two Middle School presentations, a Junior Primary Orientation Day,
Raffle Audit, School Re-registration visit, visit from Capital Grants
Committee regarding application for funds, Leighton Shores MRS hearing with
the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, finalized the Teacher
Registration, and Lorraine Martis has been representing AISWA on the Early
Childhood Reference Group developing a community awareness campaign for
children with disabilities.
Upper Primary children attained a grant to help them
for their work in the community, and the year sevens have run some very
successful fundraising activities in preparation for the end of year camp.
We enjoyed Jump Rope for Heart and thank all of you who participated – The
children have raised over $1,000 for the Heart Foundation and still
counting!
Unfortunately we had to cancel our Parent Education
Evening this term which was to look at how the Arts are incorporated into
the Montessori curriculum. This evening has been rescheduled and will now
take place on the 29th August so that Tina will also be able to join us.
The Maths evening that was previously scheduled for this date has been
postponed.
So as you can see it has been a busy term, but we have
achieved a great deal. The school council has been working hard reviewing
policies:
These policies are available at the office for you to
read. If you have any suggestions for editing, please address the council
at the open forum prior to every council meeting.
The uniform shop is now up and running! Special thanks
to Jacqui Tan, Jill Dare and Susan Boladeras for organising the purchase of
the uniforms and establishing a roster to man the shop. I would also like
to thank Lee Robinson, Paula Sheehan and Silvina Burgueno for spending hours
sorting and packing the uniforms into sizes and colours; and to our many
parents who have volunteered for uniform shop roster. Please remember that
although uniforms are not compulsory, children will be required to wear a
Beehive shirt on excursions.
I would like to thank the parents who have supported
the school over the last term. A school community is only as strong as its
members and I sense a lot of pride and happiness within our school
community. Special thanks to all our Beeliners for the great work that they
do, and to the Middle School Committee for their enthusiasm and wonderful
organizational skills.
Our Council wishes to advise that nominations are open
for the National Excellence in Teaching Awards, conducted by the Neita
Foundation. If you are interested in nominating a teacher or a team,
nomination forms are available at the school office, or can be made online
at www.neita.com. Closing date is 29th
July 2005.
Finally, I would like to wish Tina all the best on her
long service leave. She will be cycling around Northern Italy and we wish
her a safe and happy trip. Have fun Tina, you deserve the break! Dianne
Edmonds will be replacing Tina in her absence and we welcome her to the
school.
Have a great holiday. Rest, stay warm and bathe in as
much sunshine as you can. See you all next term.
